Kashia spent her life standing up for people in her music, her art, and the way she treated everyone she met. She lived openly with Schizoaffective Disorder and fought for her health with a courage most people never have to find.
The systems around her did not match that courage. Your gift helps us build ones that do.

Through systemic policy reform, trauma-informed arts education, digital health innovation, and independent research, we are working toward an Australia where no individual living with severe mental illness is left behind, and no family endures this heartbreak alone.
Where your money goes
Your gift is put to work across the Foundation's five pillars:
Awareness through the arts: Concerts, exhibitions and the Kia children's books that change how Australia talks about mental illness, reaching hearts where statistics cannot.
Policy reform: Advocacy to close the safeguarding gaps that failed Kashia, including border protections for people under active psychiatric treatment orders.
Research: Independent studies and seed grants into Schizoaffective Disorder and related conditions, so better evidence leads to earlier intervention.
Programs: The Mana Collective, giving young people and adults a safe, trauma-informed place to write, record and perform their own music.
Digital health innovation: Championing tools like the Booyah App that can reach people before a crisis, not after.
Give in memory or in celebration
In memory of Kashia: Many people who loved Kashia, or who have come to know her story, choose to give in her memory on her birthday (21 December), on the anniversary of her passing (24 February), or whenever she comes to mind. Every in-memory gift is recorded in her honour.
In memory of your own loved one: If you have lost someone to mental illness, you are part of a family none of us chose. A tribute gift in your loved one's name directs their memory toward change. You can tell us about them in the tribute field, and if you wish, we'll send an acknowledgement card to a family member handled gently, and only ever with your consent.
In lieu of flowers: Families planning a funeral or memorial service can nominate the Foundation for donations in lieu of flowers. We provide a dedicated giving page for your loved one, collection envelopes or a QR code for the service, and a summary of gifts received for the family. Contact us and we will arrange everything within 24 hours. This is something we understand from the inside, and we will make it as easy as it can be.
Celebration giving: Birthdays, weddings, graduations: ask for donations instead of gifts, and we'll set up a page for your occasion.
Workplace giving
Small amounts from each pay, matched by many colleagues, become transformative. The Foundation can be added to your employer's workplace giving program and employers who match staff donations double the impact.
For employees: Ask your payroll or HR team to add the Kashia Faumui Foundation (via your workplace giving platform).
For employers: Talk to us about matched giving, staff volunteering days at our concerts and exhibitions, and mental health awareness sessions for your team.
Gifts in wills
A gift in your will costs nothing today and changes what the Foundation can promise tomorrow: multi-year research fellowships, permanent programs, and reform campaigns that outlast electoral cycles. After providing for your loved ones, a bequest of any size, a percentage of your estate, a fixed sum, or a residual gift becomes part of Kashia's legacy and yours.
We recommend speaking with your solicitor or a qualified adviser when making or updating your will. If you've included the Foundation in your will or are considering it we'd be honoured to hear from you, in complete confidence.
Fundraise for us
Run, ride, shave, bake, busk, stream supporter fundraising carries Kashia's story into places we could never reach alone. Musicians hold a special place here: gig proceeds and benefit shows sit at the very heart of who Kashia was.
We'll support you with a personal fundraising page, the Foundation's logo and brand pack, Kia materials for your event, and a thank-you when it's done. (Note: Community fundraising on the Foundation's behalf requires our written authority to comply with state fundraising laws the sign-up form below handles this automatically.)
Donation FAQs
Is my donation tax deductible? The Foundation is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient, so donations of $2 or more are tax deductible in Australia. Your receipt is emailed instantly and is all you need at tax time. Our DGR endorsement is in progress; this page will be updated the moment it is granted.
How much of my donation reaches the programs? As a new foundation we are building our track record in public: our annual report will publish full income and expenditure each year, lodged with The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). We keep administration lean and will show you the numbers rather than ask you to take our word for it.
Can I choose which pillar my donation supports? Gifts are directed where the need is greatest, which lets us respond as programs grow. If you'd like to discuss a directed gift for example, funding a Kia print run or a research seed grant contact us at [email] and we'll arrange it properly.
Can I donate from outside Australia? Yes, international cards are accepted. Note that Australian tax deductibility applies to Australian taxpayers; overseas donors should check their local rules.
Whatever you give, it means the world
The Foundation exists because one family refused to let a preventable loss stay meaningless. Every donation of five dollars or five thousand is a hand on our shoulder saying keep going.
